About Amersham Osteopathic Clinic

Osteopaths provide over 8 million consultations a year for musculoskeletal problems. We aim to treat the cause of the problem, the physical symptoms and prevent recurrences. As Osteopaths we also treat a range of conditions other than bad backs and necks, strains, tendinitis and arthritis via the musculoskeletal framework. Some of our patients find osteopathic treatment invaluable for asthma and chest infections, headaches and migraines, irritable bowel and menstrual problems.

Amersham Osteopathic Clinic has been open in Chiltern Road for the last 15 years, serving the families of Amersham, Chesham, Beaconsfield, the Chalfonts and further beyond.  We are open 5 days a week including Saturday mornings. The clinic is run by:

Karen Carroll

Karen Carroll, DO, ND, Dip Paed Ost, MSCC

Osteopath and Naturopath.

Karen treats structural problems and also specialises in the treatment of children, pregnant and post partum mothers. Karen is also Consultant at the Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy clinic (the Osteopathic Centre for Children) in Clerkenwell, London. Karen lectures worldwide on Laser Therapy and in the UK and Europe at a Post Graduate level on Paediatric Osteopathy and Osteopathic Techniques. Karen has done extensive post graduate training in Osteopathy in the Cranial Field and is now a member of the Sutherland Cranial College

Matthew Mojsak, M.Ost, DO, ND

Osteopath and Naturopath.

Matthew treats structural problems, particularly sports injuries. He also has a special interest in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome / ME with osteopathy and naturopathy. Matthew's naturopathic approach is particularly useful in helping patients with the symptoms of chronic constipation, some skin conditions, fatigue, weight loss and irritable bowel type symptoms

REFERRAL Patients do not need a GP referral to come to an osteopath for paediatric or structural osteopathy. Most patients are self-referring or come on the recommendation of family, colleagues, GP or Health Visitor.

URGENT APPOINTMENTS We aim to fit all new urgent patients in with one of our osteopaths within 48 hours where possible, particularly unwell babies or children. We operate a cancellation list and phone patients if an appointment becomes free sooner.

HEALTH INSURANCE COVER All private health insurance companies now pay for osteopathic treatment on GP referral including PPP and BUPA. Some health insurance policies pay for osteopathic treatment of children. Treatments are covered by BUPA and PPP,  Norwich Union, WPA, Standard Life as well as other insurance companies depending on the level / type of cover. We recommend patients contact their health insurance company before coming for treatment to ensure they have the appropriate referrals / authorisation to cover treatment.

OSTEOPATHIC TREATMENT The first consultation includes a full case history, a thorough structural assessment and some treatment (unless there are any reasons why a patient should not be treated that day). Treatment may include deep soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation and manipulation, cranial osteopathy, laser therapy, postural and home care advice and the prescription of exercises to maintain flexibility, range of movement and strength. The number of treatments often depends on how long the problem has been there and how bad it is. Two or three treatments may be sufficient to sort out many complaints. It is best to treat recent injuries as soon as possible.

HEALTH MAINTENANCE Here at the clinic, we try to encourage patients to actively look after their health and well-being. We may suggest patients come in for a regular loosen up as we find this reduces the incidence of acute episodes. Patients who lead stressful lives especially benefit from some time out to look after their body and to discuss ways of improving their health, diet and lifestyle and reducing stress.
