Amersham Osteopathic Clinic has been open in Chiltern Road for the last 20 years, serving the families of Amersham, Chesham, Beaconsfield, the Chalfonts and further beyond. We are open 5 days a week including Saturday mornings. The clinic is run by:
Karen Carroll, DO, ND, Dip Paed Ost, Fellow SCCO
Osteopath and Naturopath.
I treat structural problems in both young and older people, manual workers, office professionals, pregnant women, children and sports people. Over the last twenty three years, I have treated people for a wide variety of conditions, including back and neck pain, repetitive strain injury, changes to posture in pregnancy, postural problems caused by driving or work strain, the pain of arthritis and minor sports injuries. I specialise in the use of laser therapy to assist relief in some chronic pain syndromes, neuralgia and sciatica, to help with speeding up recovery post-operatively, and for other problems that have failed to respond to conventional manual therapy treatment.
I also have a special interest in the osteopathic treatment of babies, children, teenagers and pregnant and post partum mothers. I also have a particular interest in fibromyalgia and digestive problems as well as giving naturopathic advice.
I am Consultant at the internationally renowned Osteopathic Centre for Children in London (the clinical arm of the Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy). I have taught Osteopathic Techniques in the UK and Europe at a post graduate level. I have lectured worldwide on Laser Therapy and regularly teach in the UK and throughout Europe at a Post Graduate level on Paediatric Osteopathy for a number of Osteopathic Schools and organisations in Spain, Germany, Austria and Italy. I am on the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy Teaching Faculty.
My post graduate training includes the Osteopathy in the Cranial Field Pathway with the Sutherland Cranial College, the full Biodynamics curriculum of Dr James Jealous, postgraduate courses with the British School of Osteopathy, a two year post graduate Diploma from the Osteopathic Centre for Children and many other courses.
I am a Fellow of the Sutherland Cranial College and belong to the Sutherland Society, I sit on the Sutherland Cranial College research subcommittee as well as helping to facilitate laser therapy research and treatment and have written for osteopathic in-house journals and have had a paper published in the Proceedings of the OsEAN Open Forum 2012 on “Teaching Osteopathic Research”.

Coming to the clinic
REFERRAL You do not need a GP referral to come to an osteopath for paediatric or structural osteopathy unless yourHealth Insurance company specifically requires this. Most of our patients are self-referring or come on the recommendation of family, friends, colleagues, GP or Health Visitor.
URGENT APPOINTMENTS We aim to fit all new urgent patients in with one of our osteopaths within 48 hours where possible, particularly babies or children, and adults in acute pain. We operate a cancellation list and will phone you if an appointment becomes free sooner if you need an urgent appointment.
HEALTH INSURANCE COVER typically private health insurance covers osteopathy with GP referral. Some insurance policies pay for osteopathic treatment of children. Treatments are covered by Pru Health, AXA/PPP, Norwich Union, WPA, Standard Life, HSA as well as the other insurance companies depending on the level / type of cover. Please contact your health insurance before treatment to ensure you have the appropriate referrals / letter / authorisation to cover treatment.
HEALTH MAINTENANCE Here at the clinic, as I am a qualified Naturopath, I also try to encourage patients to actively look after their health and well-being. I may suggest patients come in for a regular loosen up as I find this reduces the incidence of acute episodes. Patients who lead stressful lives especially benefit from some time out to look after their body and to discuss ways of improving their health, diet and lifestyle and reducing stress.
I am able to give naturopathic advice on, for example, the latest thinking and research for diet and supplementation, or the current research regarding relaxation therapy and headaches, or the important new findings on adverse effects of non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (like ibuprofen) for heart attack patients or pregnant women.
Patients benefit from simple tips for speedy recovery, understanding what helps them feel well and advice on how to stay well
